1. Which 21st Century Skills do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? For this project I used thinking and problem solving skills. That is because we have had to build a lot of things, and challenges have come up which we have solved. One of the hardest things was when we had to move the garden since the water was not able to reach the area that we had first planned on using. We also had to figure out a way to water the plants since that irrigation at our school has R1 water.
2. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am proud of how fast we got stuff done. We built two raised garden beds in one class, and set up a basic layout in another class. We have also weeded a lo of areas which took a tone of work. I am mainly proud of my group for getting things done, and helping our school.
3. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skills with this assignment? With any skill, using it will make you better. Since there were lots of problems that came up, we had to using our thinking and problem solving skill to fix them. Now we know how to fix those specific problems if we ever encounter them again.
4. What was most difficult about completing this task? The hardest thing about this project is all of the building. I have not really built anything before, so it is kind of hard. I am learning a lot from this though, and now I know how to build flower beds. Our school also doesn't always have the best materials, so it is sometimes hard to get things done.
5. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? For some of the things that we have done, we haven't done a ton of research. This may cause the vegetables to not grow if we are not doing it right, or we may not build the water catchment system correctly. I also would have made sure that we were planning the garden in a good place in the the first place, so we would not have to move the garden.
6. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? In middle school, we had a garden at the old school which we had to work in a lot. We learned all about harvesting food, weeding, and watering. That has all helped us with this project, since it is basically the same things. The main thing that is different now is that we have to build the garden from scratch.
7. How can you apply this to future learning? When I grow up, if i have a garden, this will help me. If I ever need to build something, the skills I learned from building this garden will help me then too. Lastly, if I ever have to find dimensions and make a layout of something, I will know how to do that from this project.
