1. Which 21st Century Skills do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? In this project we had to use communication skills. For the project we had to communicate with our audience by trying to convey the purpose, without actually "saying" it. We also worked in groups to edit, and talk about the good and bad things about our essays.
2. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? Since there was only one part to this project, I am proud of that. In my opinion my essay turned out really well in the end. Even though we only had three weeks of class before the essay, I think my writing had improved a lot from the beginning of the year. I have learned about grammar, thesis statements, purposes, and audience. All of those things have helped me to understand how to write a better essay. 3. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skills with this assignment? Since we had to figure out a new way of communicating, I now know how to do that. Before the assignment, I wasn't good at it, but now I know what to do to convey what I am trying to communicate. We also got more practice with peer editing, and practice makes perfect. 4. What was most difficult about completing this task? The hardest thing about this project was writing the introduction. It took me a long time to figure out what I should say to start of the essay. I didn't know if I should put my thesis statement or write a backstory. In the end I did neither and wrote about me today, and then a flashback to when I was younger. It ended up good, and led into the story well. 5. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? If I could redo this essay, I would look more for grammar mistakes. The most common problem in my essay were run-on sentences. I didn't know how to fix them before, but now I do. I also had one spelling error, which was just a silly mistake. I would basically just go through all of the corrections and make it as grammar-error free as I can.
6. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? In school and especially ELA classes we have learned a lot about writing essays. Each time we write one we learn from our mistakes, and then make sure we don't make them again. I have even written personal narratives in the past, just about different events.
7. How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply what I learned from this essay into the next essay. I even looked for some of the mistakes that I made in the first essay, in the second essay. With writing practice makes you better, so every essay that you write will help you with your next one.
