Work Description: For this project we had to find a lot of new information. Also, all of our information had to come from reliable sources. One of the sources even had to be a scientific reading. We first had to figure out what animal we were going to study. This was really hard, because there are not a lot of examples of adaptive radiation on the internet. Then we had to write multiple short essays as if we were the animal we were studying. Once we had gotten all of our information we had to make it into a presentation. Lastly, we presented our animal in front of the class.
Which 21st Century Skills do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? For this project, like other projects I used informational and thinking and problem solving skills. We first had to find a lot of information on our topic. That was quite difficult since there is limited information on thick skin victorian cichlids. We also had to figure out how to use the website our teacher told us to use to create the slideshow. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am really proud of my end result for this project. It took me multiple tries to figure out how to use the website. I also had to figure out how to get around paying for it, which I did. I also really like my creativity in the project. For most of the writing we had to talk like we were the fish, so I got a little carried away. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skills with this assignment? When we were doing this project I had to find many new websites that were hard to find. Especially finding reliable sources. What was most difficult about completing this task? The most difficult thing about this project was finding an animal that was created because of adaptive radiation. That single thing took me about a week to do. Then it was on to the next obstacle of finding reliable sources. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? I would have tried to find a better way to present my work. I could have broken it down so there was not as much text on the screen. This would have helped me present and the audience know what was going on. So if I did it again I would make a totally different presentation. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? This reminds me of the time when we would go on field trips to the ocean center learning about he fish. While we were there we would learn about the fish's migration and a little bit about adaptive radiation. How can you apply this to future learning? This will help me a lot in my future because it relates to want I want to be when I grow up. Since I want to be a zoologist this will relate to my future studies on migration and adaptive radiation in animals.
