For this assignment, we had to write an essay on the three major perspectives in sociology: functionalism, conflict, and symbolic interactionism. These questions were based on the conflict that has come up during COVID-19 with vaccines, masks, and regulations. To complete this essay I had to do some research, first on COVID regulations, and then more about the perspectives. Even though this was somewhat of a research paper, we were still able to explain our own beliefs and opinions on the topic. I talked about the importance of rules and regulations, how social status has a major part in this virus, and differently, we see the world now compared to a couple of years ago. Even though I have talked with many people about this topic, I never really had any facts to back me up, but with this assignment, I really had to do some research, so I wasn't just explaining false opinions. I used my informational skills to navigate the internet, to find information that I could use for the essay. I did also have to use communication skills to effectively communicate my ideas with my teacher on the topic. I think I did a really good job of finding the information, but through the feedback from my teacher, I realized that there were some questions that I left unanswered. So for next time, I will make sure to cover the topic completely to really support my claims. Since this was the first essay that I wrote for the class, I can really use the feedback for my next essays, so I can do exactly what my teacher wants me to do.
