Work Description: Since this is still an ongoing project, I will only talk about what we have done so far. For this project, we had to complete many different things. The things that we did were a game show, argumentative essay, day in the life, movie trailer, portrait, and debate. For each part we had to research different things. Once we did the first couple of things, the research got a lot easier because we already Knew a lot of the information. My favorite part of this project was the day in the life. For that we wrote an essay and preformed as if we were the person we were researching. The debate portion of the project was also really fun. During the debate we went up against another person and tried to make our hero sound better.
Which 21st Century Skills do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? For this project we mainly used informational skills and communication skills. Since there were many parts to this project, we had to present a lot and find new information for each part of the project. Overall we presented five times on our own, and now we have to work with a group for the last part of the project. Since we are in groups we will have t communicate with each other to make sure our ideas are heard. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of the game show portion of this project. For that part we had to memorize as many facts about our hero and our opponents hero. I fell that I did really well, and I knew how to answer each question that my classmates asked me. I even knew most of the answers to the questions they asked my opponent. For the game show we had to stand up in front of everyone next to our opponent. Then our classmates would ask us random questions. We had to answer them as best as we could, and if our opponent didn't know an answer to theirs, we could answer it for them. Then everyone voted for who they thought should win. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skills with this assignment? For this project we had to use a lot of technology, not only to find information, but to create different presentations. Since we had to study people from the past, and some weren't that famous, it was hard to find information on them. So, we had to figure out different ways to find information and then comprehend it, using technology. We also had one part of the project where we had to create a movie trailer. For that I had to basically learn from scratch how to make a movie trailer with technology. Other than that, we used communication skills a lot when we had to present in front of the class. Since there were so many instances where we had to use those skills, I was able to get a lot of practice, furthering my skills for the skills. What was most difficult about completing this task? For some of the parts for this project, we had to find pictures of our hero. This was hard for me, because there is only one real picture of her on the internet. This was hard when I had to draw a portrait of Alice Ball, and create a movie trailer about her. It was also hard to find specific dates for import events in her life. An example of that would have been how I couldn't find the year when she created the cure for leprosy. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? I personally think I couldn't have done most of the parts for the project better. Though, there was one part where we had to write an argumentative essay, where I could have written a lot better. I also messed up on my grammar a lot in the essay. Also for each part we had to compete against someone, and so far I have not lost. How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? This project reminded me of multiple projects that we have had before where we had to find information online about a person from the past. Those projects also included essays and presentations. For those projects we also had to use information and communication skills. How can you apply this to future learning? Next time I have to find information online I will have the skills to be able to find the information quicker and more effectively. We also haven't finished the last couple of parts for this project, so now I can easily find information about Alice Ball. I also won't even need to sue the internet that much because I have a lot of the information memorized.
